The Reddit Marketing Playbook That Can Grow Your Brand

reddit

Reddit. It’s everywhere these days, isn’t it?

It’s dominating nearly every organic search results (or so it seems). All thanks to that little deal Reddit and Google made a while back.

Reddit also made a deal with OpenAI, which is why you see it referenced so often in chatGPT.

You’re also likely seeing Reddit cited in those AI overviews that Google loves pushing down our throats these days.

Organic search results. AI overviews. chatGPT.

These days it’s easier to ask where isn’t Reddit rather than where is Reddit showing up.

Other LLMs like Perplexity and Claude are also citing Reddit in many of their answers.

So, if you run a SaaS or other brand, you’re likely already starting to see the importance of Reddit as a marketing strategy.

Here’s the quick guide what you need to know about using Reddit as a marketing strategy –

The playbook is about being authentic.

I know, it sounds corny. But if you’re a Reddit user, or have been in the past, then you know what I’m talking about here.

To be successful at Reddit marketing, you gotta be authentic cause Redditors can smell a marketer a mile away. And they hate being marketed to.

Focus on being helpful and authentic instead of selling.

Keep It Real

Reddit is a community that you must be a part of in order to successfully grow your brand.

This means don’t show up and start shilling your product or brand immediately.

Hang around a while. Read some posts. Leave some comments.

Learn how Redditors talk to each other in whatever subreddit you want to market in.

Focus on the Right Subreddits

Reddit is really just a home of a tons of niched-down communities, called subreddits.

You gotta find the most relevant ones for your brand. This means the places where your target audience or ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) hangs out.

Don’t just post in whatever subreddits you can find. Instead put your energy into posting on the RIGHT subreddits for your audience.

This is how your messages gets seen by the right audience.

And don’t just focus on the relevant subreddits with the most members. Sometimes those smaller subreddits is where the magic happens.

Don’t Be A Sales Bro

Redditors SERIOUSLY hate marketers and being marketed to on Reddit. So you gotta be slick about your marketing.

Often this means sneaking it into a super helpful post or comment without sounding salesy. You want to come across as a friend recommending something instead of a sales bro.

Share something you learned, like a case study. Or talk about a problem you had, the steps you took to solve it, etc.

And if you must make a sales pitch, then make it a soft one or you’ll get massacred in the comments. Or worse, your post will get removed and/or you’ll get banned from that subreddit.

Play By The Rules

Most subreddits have their own rules. So what flies in one subreddit might not work in a different subreddit.

So don’t just blindly post the same shill in several different subreddit without reading the rules.

Cause some of those subreddit moderators will ban you immediately just for not following the subreddit guidelines.

Hire A Professional

Sometimes it just makes more sense to hire a Reddit marketing specialist instead of going the DIY route. This is especially true if you’re not a regular user of Reddit.

Reddit marketing pros tend to have a long user history on Reddit and are more savvy about getting promos to stick without getting banned.

Some of them even manage multiple aged accounts, which lets them do things like upvote their own comments & posts, as well as do some really effective reputation management if there are negative posts about your brand.

These days many marketing agencies are offering a Reddit marketing service in addition to their regular services. But in most instances, this doesn’t make sense for a brand.

Instead, you’re better offer hiring a Reddit Marketing agency that specializes in Reddit and not trying to do a million things. Just Reddit Agency is one of those specialists.

How Long To See Results With Reddit Marketing?

Often, brands start to see results pretty quickly when Reddit marketing is done right.

Let’s say that you’ve hired someone to promote your SaaS on Reddit. Most of the time you’ll start seeing traffic and user sign ups as soon as those Reddit posts and comments get published.

I’ve also seen unlinked mentions work really well in terms of boosting branded searches, which is great for SEO and sending the right signals to Google.

But probably the best thing about Reddit Marketing results is that these posts are evergreen. That means you’ll see positive results for years to come.

Earlier this year I did Reddit Marketing for a real estate investor and he is STILL getting clients from that work. And, he’s showing up in Perplexity and chatGPT from that work.

So instead of wondering how long it takes to see results, just know that it’s something that will continue to deliver results for you over time.
